The Vikos Gorge (Φαράγγι Βίκου) is a 12 km gorge cut by the Voidomatis river through the Pindus mountains of Epirus, with vertical limestone walls dropping up to 900 m from rim to floor. The Guinness Book of Records once listed it as the deepest gorge in the world by depth-to-width ratio; whether or not that's still the official record, the visual impact is undeniable.

The gorge sits inside the Vikos–Aoos national park, surrounded by the Zagori stone villages. The two best vantage points are the Beloi viewpoint above Vrysochori on the eastern rim (panoramic gorge view) and the Oxia viewpoint above Monodendri on the western rim (looking down the gorge from its head). Both viewpoints are car-accessible.

The famous hike crosses the entire gorge from Monodendri to the twin villages of Papingo — 12 km, 5–7 hours, technically not difficult but long and with a 900 m elevation gain on the Papingo end. The trail follows the Voidomatis river through dramatic scenery; you'll need a Luxi driver to drop you at the Monodendri trailhead and pick you up at Papingo at the end of the day (no parking shuttle exists).

From Ioannina Airport (IOA), the gorge viewpoints are 50 minutes to 1h 15m by road. Sedan transfer from IOA to Monodendri runs €60–€90, to Papingo €80–€120. Drop-and-pickup hike-support transfer is typically quoted as €160–€220 for the day.

For onward travel from Vikos Gorge, the most popular pairings are the rest of the Zagori villages, the Voidomatis river rafting (the river is gentle by international standards, ideal for first-time rafters with extraordinary scenery), and onward to Meteora (3 hours east) or back to Athens (5 hours south via Ioannina).
